Two-Part Workshop Series: Sutras and Shoulders + Sutras and Backbends

Join Tiaga Prem for this special two-part workshop series that blends the transformative teachings of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali with focused physical practices aimed at opening and strengthening key areas of your body, enhancing your regular Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice.

Part 1: Sutras and Shoulders – Sat. October 12th @ 12pm – 3pm

In this first workshop, you will explore shoulder-opening techniques using Hatha yoga principles and targeted drills. These methods are designed to improve shoulder mobility and stability, making them an essential part of any yoga practice. The session will also feature a discussion of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, focusing on the first two books, which lay the groundwork for understanding yoga philosophy.

Part 2: Sutras and Backbends – Sat. October 26th @ 12pm – 3pm

In the second workshop, the focus shifts to cultivating a sustainable and strong backbending practice. You’ll learn techniques and drills to safely deepen your backbends while maintaining spinal health. This session will also cover the last two books of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, offering deeper insights into the philosophical aspects of yoga.

Who is this for?

These workshops are suitable for all levels and provide an excellent opportunity to explore yoga philosophy while enhancing your physical practice. Whether you’re just starting your journey or are looking to refine your skills, this series will offer valuable techniques and insights. You do not need to attend both workshops – nor do you have to attend part 1 to be able to take part in part 2.

Fees:

  • $35 per session
  • $60 for both sessions

About Tiaga Prem

Tiaga Prem is a dedicated Ashtanga Yoga practitioner with over 25 years of experience, deeply rooted in the lineage of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and T. Krishnamacharya. He remains closely connected to how Ashtanga was originally taught in the 1970s and 80s, while continually learning how it is practiced today. By blending traditional and modern approaches, Tiaga Prem tailors his teachings to meet the unique needs of each student. As a student of Tina James—an Ashtanga practitioner for 48 years, connected to the teachings of Nancy Gilgoff and Manju Jois—he honours the wisdom of the lineage.

Tiaga Prem views Hatha Yoga as one path with many vehicles, sharing it as a lifelong, healing spiritual journey. His studies, practice, and pilgrimages to India have deepened his understanding of the lineage of Hatha Yoga and its roots. As a student of Sri Dharma Mittra, he integrates both the physical and philosophical dimensions of yoga, offering a holistic and accessible approach for all practitioners.
